A Senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial District has warned against alterations to the details of the 2016 Budget. Speaking on the 2016 budget proposal presented by President Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi said that it is considered inappropriate to temper with the details of the budget presented by Mr. President as so doing, it exposed the All Progressives Party (APC) led government to ridicule.
“A lot of things have been said about this budget by my colleagues, but I want to say, this budget is an ambitious budget .” He said a budget of N6 trillion is the first of its kind in the history of Nigeria.”
The 2016 budget proposal scaled through second reading on Wednesday January 27, 2016 after over 70 senators made their contributions to the debate on it.
According to Senator Hunkuyi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government was chased out because of its irresponsiveness to the people. He said APC government is a government that listens to the yearning and aspirations of people and that the budget was made in that regard.
Similarly, former Governor of Kano State and a Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial Zone, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said there is no need to be worried about feeding of primary school feeding as captured in the budget, stressing that he had practiced it between 1999 to 2003 and 2011 to 2015. According to him, the result was so encouraging.
Kwankwaso said he had also practiced single treasury account and a lot of money was recovered in the process.
Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio also said the 2016 budget proposal was an uncommon budget on the ground that some money will be gotten from other sources apart from oil. He however, said the allocation to agriculture is too small.
