Lai Mohammed lists corruption cases, about 4 trillion looted from Obasanjo’s tenure

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture has revealed that top government officials in charge of pension funds have looted about N273.9bn from pension funds between the President Olusegun Obasanjo era in 2005 to the Jonathan Administration’s in 2011.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed who was the guest lecturer of the faculty of arts, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, on Friday also listed other corruption cases in the country as follows; 

  • N1.9bn Special Intervention Ebola Fund Scandal;
  • 774m, Police Equipment Funds scandal;  
  • 54bn Dasukigate Arms Procurement Scandal
  • N2.587trn Fuel Subsidy Scam

He urged citizens should form coalitions and galvanise their individual efforts to tackle corruption, saying there was a role for everyone in tackling graft. The minister said once the people were determined to battle corruption, they were assured of victory. 

Alhaji Lai Mohammed said there was a link between corruption and under-development, and noted that corruption had under-developed Nigeria and condemned the citizens into perpetual poverty.
