According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Telecoms operators engaged in a total of 35,500 mobile number porting activities in the month of December 2015.
The report titled `Incoming and Outgoing Porting Activities of Mobile Network Operators’ showed that of the the 35,500 porting activities recorded in the month under review, 17,742 were incoming porting activities, while 17,758 were outgoing.
The report indicated in the outgoing table telecommunications giant, MTN Nigeria, was the top loser as it lost 10,739 customers to other networks. MTN is closely followed by Airtel Nigeria which lost 3,188 subscribers. Globacom lost 2,092 subscribers, while 1,739 customers of Etisalat Nigeria ported to other networks in the period under review.
Etisalat with the lowest loss also gained the most subscribers with 12,384 customers on its network in December. Airtel came second on the gainers’ list, as it added 2,885 subscribers to its customers’ strength while 2,047 subscribers moved into the Globacom’s network. MTN trailed with 436 customers who moved to the network during the month.
The report showed that there was a decrease of 1,019 Mobile Number Portability (MNP) activities in the month of December, when compared to 36,519 activities recorded in November.
NAN reports that the exercise was flagged off on April 22, 2013 by the NCC, with the aim of deepening competition in the industry.
