Rescued girl not ‘fake’, Army insists 2nd rescued girl is a Chibok student

The Nigerian Army has responded to revelations by the Chibok community following the denial of the 2nd girl ‘rescued’ from Sambisa forest, Sarah Luka who the Nigerian Army claimed was one of the Chibok students abducted by Boko Haram in 2014.

The Army has insisted that Sarah Luka was one of the abducted Chibok girls which has been a subject of debate among Nigerians.

According to the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman who spoke to Channels TV in a telephone interview said the Army carried out thorough investigation, including consultation with the authorities at the Government Secondary School in Chibok before announcing the rescue of Sarah Luka.

“Before we informed the public, we carried out some form of confirmatory check in respect of her true identity and what she told us.

“The fact is she was abducted from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, and hails from Madagali in Adamawa State”.

The head of the Chibok Abducted Girls Parents group, Yakubu Nkeki earlier debunked the Army’s claim and remarked that none of the girls hailed from Madagali;

“Among the girls none of them is from Madagali. They were either from Chibok, Damboa, Askira and Uba (all in Borno state). So I can say… that this girl is not among the abducted Chibok girls.

“We were never contacted by the military for verification of the girl’s identity before the announcement was made,” he said.

He further stated that the military is working hard to ensure that the abducted Chibok Girls are rescued.
