Amnesty program is following due process, Gen Boroh explains amid allegations of financial impropriety

Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Program, Brigadier General Paul Boroh has debunked allegations of financial impropriety, recklessness and waste in his running of the Amnesty office.

Boroh was alleged to have purchased official vehicles for the Amnesty office worth N157 million as well as inflation of expenses with regards to the training of ex-militants between November and December of 2015.

General Boroh who debunked the allegations said; “the Amnesty Office has adhered strictly to universally accepted standards of transparency and openness in disclosing its financial transactions, it had followed due process in executing all its transactions in the 2015 budget allocation, paid all stipends, fees and in training allowances owed since 2013-2015 and returned over N400m in unspent funds to the national treasury.”

Giving insight into the due process mechanisms, Gen. Boroh explained that; “Several committees set up on our resumption of duty have made far reaching recommendations which are being applied to the later. For instance aside massively reducing the number of consultants tied to the programme, we have moved from the past and instilled a proper and verifiable database which has become the basis for all our activities unlike in the past where there was no coherent and reliable database.”

He noted that the program has achieved its mandate of stabilising a relatively volatile Niger Delta region through its various intervention.

General Boroh attributed the allegations to disgruntled persons, and said he would not be distracted in the process of the sustainable reintegration of ex-agitators into the society. He called on the general public to disregard the rumours and support this administration’s meaningful efforts to advance the Niger Delta.
