The Nigerian Army, said yesterday that it will launch operation ‘Crocodile Smile’ in the Niger Delta to checkmate the the incessant spate of criminal activities in the region.
Chief of Army Staff, (COAS) Lt. Gen. Yusuf Buratai disclosed this while speaking to newsmen shortly after declaring close, the Nigerian Army 2016 Combat Support Arms Training week held at the headquarters of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri.
According to Lt. Gen. Buratai, the operation which is expected to commence this week, will involve the deployment of military special troop forces and other hardwares so as to restore peace and normalcy in the region.
He said the Combat Support Arms Training is an annual event designed to keep troops updated on the ethical and professional conduct of combat support to meet up with current and future challenges.
He noted that the current training activities have been going on in formations and units of the Nigerian Army.
The COAS therefore urge troops to be loyal to the constituted authorities and continue offering selfless service in the fight against insurgency and maintenance of internal security.
He further explained that he army headquarters will continue to provide the necessary direction and resources to its troops to ensure that the combat arms perform optimally.
