A former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, currently standing trial at the Code of Conduct is lamenting his ordeal in the hands of the government over claims he said he has no knowledge of.
The minister who maintained his innocence described as unfortunate the treatment as one of those who made sacrifices to ensure peace and stability in Nigeria.
“I slept in the creeks for two weeks trying to persuade the militants to drop their weapons.
“Finally, we succeeded and we got amnesty. But see what I am being subjected to today.”
Orubebe who was testifying at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) during his trial, said that it was unfortunate that he served the country for over six years only to be put on trial for alleged non-declaration of assets.
“I love this country and I served as a minister with all my heart and to the best of my ability.
“But I am pained that the same country is putting me through all the things I know nothing about,” he said.
