‘Tompolo is a betrayal’, Niger Delta Avengers blasts ex-militant leader over cease fire plea

The Niger Delta Avengers on Tuesday responded angrily to the cease fire appeal by ex-militants’ leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo) and called him a betrayal of their trust.

But the Avengers, speaking from their hideouts yesterday, threatened that the bombing will continue, insisting that Federal Government decision to invite military men to the creeks will worsen the situation.

An email statement signed by Mathias Akor, claiming to be spokesmen for the Avengers, stated: “We will not relent until the military men leave our lands, Tompolo is a betrayal, we will not cease fire, he is not our leader again, the military men should go away from our creeks” waving that the Avengers will things worse if the military men refused to quit Oporoza, Gbaramatu and other neighbouring communities in Delta State.

It was gathered that Nigerian Military Joint Taskforce (JTF) otherwise known as Operation Pulo Shield, have allegedly destroyed shrines in Oporoza, Gbaramatu and other neighbouring communities in the continued search for Tompolo.

Expectedly, residents of the communities taken over by the fierce looking military men, have fled their homes for fear of being killed by everyday shootings.

It would be recalled that an earlier operation last Friday had led to the arrest of one of those believed to be carrying out the various attacks on oil and gas facilities in the creeks of Delta State.

The suspects were reportedly handed over to the Navy and were immediately flown to Abuja for interrogation.

JTF spokesman, Colonel Isa Ado in a statement issued on Tuesday also said that the Joint Military Taskforce (JTF), will do everything possible to protect the oil installations, saying that the Avengers threats were that of “toothless dogs”.

Parts of the statement read: “We will resist all forms of illegal attempt to destroy the oil installations, Avengers’ threats is a mere threats like the toothless dogs”.
