Sultan of Sokoto Sa’ad Abubakar on Saturday has blamed political elites for the problems facing the country. The Sultan who spoke in defence of his people said, the ordinary fulani man that move around with their animals cannot be the problem but politicians who have lost power.
“The problem of this country are elites. They are the ones causing problems for the common man. When such people lost power, the next thing is to start using some few people to cause problems.
“They politicized everything in the country. Religion has been politicized, everything positive has being politicized, everything bad had been politicized.
“The saddest thing is that everything negative is being given hausa, Fulani or religious name. But you hardly hear the names of other people committing the crimes.”
Sultan Abubakar was speaking at his palace when he hosted delegations of Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation in Nigeria and other stakeholders in the state for a break of Ramadan fast.
The Sultan remarked that the true Nigerian spirit is loving and tolerant but said the elites are exploiting the fault lines, he said, “Nigeria is a beautiful country, they love themselves but politicians engage in dividing them using religion, ethnicity. That is where you hear things like insurgency in North East or avengers in Niger Delta. All these are problems caused by some individuals who do not wish the country well,” he said.
The Sultan therefore, begged the elites not to make innocent people die for their selfish reasons or interest, saying they should remember that God is watching them”.
