The Nigerian Army has announced that it has successfully chased Boko Haram terrorists from the Sambisa Forest and its other stongholds. General Abraham Luka Dusu, the Commandant 33 Artillery Brigade said that the success recorded calls for unique celebration of the Nigeria Army Remembrance Day this year. The Commandant kept mum on the Chibok Girls who were believed to have been held in the Sambisa Forest.
Luka Dusu made the declaration on Sunday, during the special church service organized by the brigade at the ‘Shadawanka Barracks, Bauchi to commemorate this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration.
According to him, the military personnel have in recent times exhibited high level of determination and bravery which had enabled them to chase out the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents from the Sambisa forest and their other strongholds thereby restoring peace in the embattled north.
He, however, charged officers of the Nigerian army to continue to devote themselves heartily to national service and to always place the needs of others above their personal interests in order to keep the country united and safe for all citizens.
Dusu who explained that the army was created to secure the territorial boarders of the nation and to restore calmness during internal conflicts, claimed that soldiers have played the most important role in keeping Nigerians together since independence.
Earlier in his sermon, the pastor of the barracks, Major Reverend MS Dallys applauded the soldiers for sacrificing their lives in various battles to defend the nation, calling on the citizens to reciprocate this gesture by being helpful to the families of the deceased soldiers.
“We pray that the labour of the men and women who gave their blood in various wars and battles will not be in vain but manifest in their families as you stand in for them and use us to provide and help them when able.’’
