Why has ‘the law has grown weak?’, Methodist Bishop queries Buhari on Fulani Herdsmen

The Methodist Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Rt Rev Lawson Elom has called on the President, Muhammadu Buhari to urgently check the activities of the Fulani Militant group, a terrorist organization masquerading as herdsmen.

The Bishop said that the law has grown weak when it comes to the activities of the herdsmen. He gave his remarks on Tuesday in Abakaliki during the 22nd synod of the church and called on the Federal Government to initiate a law prohibiting herdsmen from being armed with any dangerous weapons.

He said that only stiff penalties would reduce the incessant killings by the Fulani herdsmen which he said has made them to be perceived like Boko Haram.

He regretted that the herdsmen are allowed to move freely with sophisticated weapons with which they unleash terror on communities and villages instead of their normal sticks.

“Can Buhari, our dear President who is a Fulani, rise up to this challenge before this evil perpetrated by these our brothers begin to affect the socio-political and economic life of this our dear country?” He queried.

He condemned the massive killings of people in Benue, Enugu, Anambra, Ondo, Taraba, Nassarawa, Plateau, Delta, Oyo, Ekiti and others by the herdsmen.

On the lingering fuel scarcity across the nation, he urged Buhai to as a matter of urgency address the problem.

What is the President of this nation, who doubles as the senior Minister for Petroleum doing to change this hardship on his led?’’

He advised the president to use the money he is recovering from looters and repair oil refineries to enable the country harvest the crude oil in the country and refine the oil also in the country.
